Last week we had the great pleasure of welcoming my sister, Annie, and her husband, Tony, to our home in Scotland! They traveled far and wide (from Oregon) just visit us!
They were with us about 5 days and, despite the jet lag, we all managed to have a pretty fantastic time. We got to show them some of our stomping grounds in Edinburgh and we even took a day trip to St Andrews. Tony is a big golf fan so seeing the Old Course was a must. We enjoyed many great meals out and they even got to see the sun shining (though it was cold) more than once! A rare treat indeed.
Some other things we did include: Trying out some different whiskeys, shopping at H&M, getting blown around by the wind (Annie just loved that part), taking them to meet our dear friends Dave & Lisa, looking over the city of Edinburgh from Calton Hill, and lots of laughing!
It was really special to have family in our home and in our life here, even if just for a short time. It makes us realise how much we miss being in the States and look forward to living back there one day (I promise!).
Between the 4 of us we probably took nearly 350 pictures, I promise I will not bore you with them all. But to sum up our great time together I have compiled about 80 of the best (or funniest) photos, so here you go:
For all of you State side, it is the day after daylight savings time. You have all lost an hour and are probably struggling to get out of bed today or to figure out how to get your wee ones scheduled with the clock. For us, it was a typical Monday. We still have 3 weeks until British Summer Time (British Summer? Seems a bit of an oxymoron to me). This means that for the next few weeks we are 1 hour closer to you!
This past Saturday I decided to take a day trip down to Durham because my friend Lucy was having a baby shower! We know Aaron and Lucy from Regent but didn’t get to know them as well until we both moved to the UK at the same time. We’ve been to visit them in Durham and they’ve been here to see us as well. They’ve become good friends and we are excited for them and their wee one to come! You can see pictures on Lucy’s flickr site if you please.
In just 12 days my sister and her husband, Annie and Tony, are coming to Edinburgh! I am so excited. This will only be our second guest from across the pond (my dad came twice last year). They will only be here about 5 days so there will be much to do. But I can’t wait to show them ‘our’ Edinburgh and for them to experience a bit of what our life is like over here.
We are also excited to share that our ‘Year of Travel’ continues. We are officially going Greece in May! Our dear friends, Dave and Lisa, (who are sadly moving back to the States in May) decided to rent a Villa on the island of Corfu for one last hurrah! They graciously offered for us to come and spend a few days with them—how could we not accept? We decided we would try and take advantage of the fact that we are going to Greece and stop in Athens for 2 days prior to Corfu. Acropolis here we come!
There’s also school and work and other things going on, they’re just not quite as fun…but they are going well for both of us. We’re about at the halfway point of living in Scotland now, time flies!
