This is the first (American) Thanksgiving in six years that we have actually been living in the States and didn’t have to travel or celebrate in a different country. It was great to be home this year surrounded by family.
For Thanksgiving this year we decided to turn it into a mini vacation. So we packed up the car (and it was packed full!) and endured the long drive to the other side of town to stay at my sister and brother-in-laws house for 3 nights. It truly was a nice break full of food, family and relaxation.
On the morning of Thanksgiving Day, Derek, Annie, Tony and I participated in the Turkey Trot 5k run. We had such a blast and it helped us to feel a little less guilty about the non-stop eating that took place throughout the day.
There was a lot of time spent in the kitchen preparing for the big meal. We had a Turducken (chicken inside a duck inside a turkey), stuffing, chive and brie biscuits, sweet potatoes, carrot soup, salad and lots of appetizers, drinks and desserts! I don’t think Evelyn realized what was going on but we enjoyed celebrating her first Thanksgiving and she even had her very first meat (turkey, of course).
Here is a video of Evelyn having turkey for the first time, not very exciting, but still cute.
Sadly we didn’t get many group or family pictures. I guess we were distracted by the food and football. But it was a great time with family, a truly happy day. Happy Thanksgiving!

Are you still alive after eating the turducken? I’ve never heard of such a thing…it can’t be good for you:)

What a wonderful time it was. As the photos show everything was beautiful and delicious. It is so great to be surrounded by my family. We all missed Mandy and did a video chat with her. Evelyn is a delight to watch as she grows everyday. I love each of you. Mom

Beautiful photos! It must have been such a wonderful day, and such a blessing that you’re home and only had to make one arduous trek across town!
