Here I am, just a girl living in Scotland. What is it like to be Katie in Scotland, you ask? Well, pretty much the same as being Katie anywhere else. I lead a pretty basic life with a few spices thrown in here and there. I was happy to find a job so quickly and without much (any) stress or worry and was even happier when they accepted that I wanted 3 weeks before I began working. Since 1 October 2007 I have been working at the University of Edinburgh for the Centre for Sport and Exercise as the Client Services Manager for the Peffermill Playing Fields (what a mouthful!). One big perk for me is the free gym membership, and I promise that someday I will actually put it to good use.

I am missing home, missing family, missing friends and missing those things that always made life just a little bit better. But we are happy to be in Scotland and consider it yet another adventure for the Browns. Most of our free time is spent sleeping, watching movies or out on walks to the many great and accessible shops/restaurants/landmarks, etc. I have met some wonderful gals and immediately started up a girls group (Scotland version) with them. The 4 of us meet fortnightly and are getting to know each other better and better. It is nice to be with people in similar circumstances and stages of life.

I am VERY happy to say that after a loooong search we finally found some good coffee in Edinburgh.  Though it’s a bit of a walk to get there, we refuse to go anywhere else for our beans.

The accents continue to amaze me and I often find myself staring at peoples mouths wondering how on earth they speak like that. I especially find older men nearly impossible to understand and sometimes at work don’t even notice when people are talking to me because, unless I focus, it all kind of sounds mumbly (I know that’s not a word-but still). However, understanding the accent is getting easier and answering the phone at work is getting less intimidating. I am even getting better at differentiating between the British accents.

Some random facts about me – I love people, I love Jesus, I like to make cards, I enjoy beer and wine, I’m addicted to email, I love sunshine, I enjoy being active but also being lazy at times and I love my husband dearly.

    It’s a snowy day in Central Oregon and the temps are at 15 degree F this afternoon. The girls are with your Mom for a bit of shopping this afternoon.

    With the weather and ice, and more on the way, I won’t see all of my kids this Christmas. It has taken some work to get you all past the age of 24 – the age where I start enjoying your company again(lost contact at age 14). I want you to be here.

    A silly way to say you are missed at home.

    Dad

  7. I “Googled” my name and came up with a link to your “Roast Master Dave” friend’s picture. Thought it was kind of cool. Check out my page on my space http://www.myspace.com/roastmasterdave

  8. P.S. If you want a challenge…see if you can find “Mr. Bean” who is hiding in the coffee background of my page. Many have tried….few have found him, good luck ;~}
